I am using martin silk steel strings on my j12 40 and d12 28 and prefer the tone of these to that of martin pb xl strings the tension is about the same for both style of strings but i rather like the tone of s s strings however i do use the xl strings on my d12 20 to give it that extra briteness in tone all of my guitars are tuned to concert pitch i tried tuning the d12 20 down 1 whole.
